Citas textuales de The New Complete Dog Book, 23ª ed.

This unique and dignified member of the Working Group is renowned for courage and loyalty but may not be tolerant of other animals. Independent and sometimes aloof with strangers, Akitas are affectionate with their family and form strong bonds.
Highly intelligent, strong-willed, and proud, the Akita responds best to respectful commands and positive-training techniques that rely on motivation rather than force.
They are independent, but most have a silly side reserved only for those people they know, love, and trust.
Akitas are generally quiet and not prone to nuisance barking.
The Akita will instinctively guard your home
The breed's regal demeanor stems from its dominant attitude. The Akita may get along well with dogs of the opposite sex who respect him; however, he will not tolerate a challenge from another dog.
Temperament: Alert and responsive, dignified and courageous. Akitas may be intolerant of other dogs, particularly of the same sex.

Ejercicio y vida en casa

Despite their large adult size, Akitas can do well in an apartment, as long as they are given daily exercise.
The breed's exercise level is medium.

Entrenamiento

Highly intelligent, strong-willed, and proud, the Akita responds best to respectful commands and positive-training techniques that rely on motivation rather than force.
this intelligent, loyal, yet headstrong breed

Ladrido

Akitas are generally quiet and not prone to nuisance barking.

Instinto de persecución

Akitas were used to hunt large game including boar, elk, and the small Yezo bear. Akitas have a luxurious double coat and a strong hunting instinct.
The Akita's strong hunting instinct requires that he should never be allowed to roam loose or off leash in an unfenced area.

Datos curiosos

Helen Keller was so impressed by the tale of Hachiko, the loyal dog who became famous for waiting nine years at a train station in hopes his dead owner would return, that she brought the first Akita to the United States in 1937.
More Akitas came to the United States after World War II, accompanying returning servicemen.
Akitas can both climb and dig, so a secure 6-foot fenced area is needed when confined outdoors.

Salud
