Boxers are happy, playful dogs and cherish their toys into old age. They love their families and especially children
Boxers are highly intelligent but intolerant of repetitious commands that they consider boring—they definitely have minds of their own and are excellent problem solvers.
Character and Temperament:... Instinctively a hearing guard dog, his bearing is alert, dignified, and self-assured... With family and friends, his temperament is fundamentally playful, yet patient and stoical with children. Deliberate and wary with strangers, he will exhibit curiosity, but, most importantly, fearless courage if threatened. However, he responds promptly to friendly overtures honestly rendered.

Their heritage as a chaser of wild game means that they spend a good deal of time jumping and leaping about, and as young dogs, they are constantly in need of correction to teach them to stay 'down.'

the Boxer was developed from stocky Bullenbeissers (bull biters) who were used to run down, catch, and hold fierce wild game—wild boar, bear, and bison.
Their heritage as a chaser of wild game means that they spend a good deal of time jumping and leaping about
the frontally placed eyes allow the Boxer to track the quarry as it races away from him.

Although his ancestors hark back as far as Assyrian war dogs of 2500 BC
The famous German vom Dom kennels of Philip and Friederun Stockmann had a great influence on American Boxers because they largely accounted for the breeding of the four dogs who were to become the foundation sires in the United States.
The undershot jaw was developed to allow him to hold his struggling prey until the human hunter could catch up to it and dispatch it.
